Herbert Sterchi was the Swiss local who helped give Ethereum its first workable legal foothold in Zug.
The clearest documentary record comes from Ethereum Switzerland GmbH, which shows that EthSuisse was incorporated on February 28, 2014 by Mihai Alisie and Herbert Sterchi. The legal timeline there lists Mihai as "president of the management partner" and Herbert as "manager partner," later simplified to "manager" before Herbert resigned on July 23, 2014 after the Stiftung Ethereum structure took over.
Episode 14 with Anthony Di Iorio explains why Herbert was there at all: Di Iorio says the Swiss entity needed somebody local, and Herbert filled that role. The Red Wedding article reinforces how foundational that arrangement was by noting that the June 2014 Zug meeting was originally supposed to be the in-person signing needed to add the other co-founders as officers of the EthSuisse entity Herbert had helped establish.
Charles Hoskinson's April 2014 talk adds a little color. He describes Herbert as an older, traditional businessman with Oracle and board experience who became visibly energized by the project. That is a narrow but useful portrait: Herbert was not one of the main ideological or technical drivers, but he was one of the people who made the Swiss structure possible in the first place.
